Crabbing the Chesapeake is a one of a kind, one hour long, informative video about the Atlantic Blue Crab. Mike Kobus takes you on a journey down the Chesapeake Bay with his guests. Watch as he shows you how to harvest these tasty crustaceans and learn dozens of interesting facts about them. You will learn how it is born, the way it grows and its feeding habits. The video features beautiful scenery from the Chesapeake Bay and the famous Wye River. The original footage was edited by Spicer Productions, one of the largest film companies in Maryland, who added graphics and music to make the video complete. The video is currently for sale in approximately 150 stores in Maryland.
In the Annapolis Capitol and Maryland Gazette, Bill Burton, Maryland’s top authority on fishing, wrote that "even an experienced crabber can learn much from this professional video".
Mike Kobus has been a regular guest on WJZ TV’s "Coffee With", hosted by Marty Bass and Don Scott. Marty Bass told viewers, "We put our stamp of recommendation on the video".
The Sunday Sun, the largest newspaper in Maryland, featured an article detailing Mike Kobus’ life and experiences in producing Crabbing the Chesapeake.
Mike Kobus appeared as a guest on a live broadcast show, and took calls and answered questions on "Ocean City Maryland Live Radio Show" with Wayne Canon, who named Mike: "The Crabman of the World".
Deborah Stone, of WJZ TV, spent a day filming on the bay with Mike Kobus, giving TV viewers a taste of crabbing, on the 6 o’clock news and the Sunday Morning News.
Mike Kobus currently has a weekly crab report on the outdoor page in the Sports section of the Friday morning Baltimore Sun, May through October.
Chesapeake Bay Magazine featured a monthly article by Mike Kobus entitled "Chicken Necker's Notebook", June through October 2000.
The crabman is currently working on mass producing the topless crab trap, featured in the video. Information will be posted on the website as it becomes available.
Crabbing the Chesapeake has been viewed in dozens of classrooms in Maryland schools to students learning about the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Blue Crab.
The National Aquarium in Baltimore, Maryland purchased the video to show in a course offered to middle schoolers.
Mike Kobus gave several 2 hour presentations on the Atlantic Blue Crab to the Living Classroom, a program in which students from all over the country learn about the Chesapeake Bay and its creatures.
Mike was a guest on Nelson Coffin's Radio Show where he discussed issues surrounding the Atlantic Blue Crab. This show led to an article about Mike and his fascination with the crab in the local Northeast Booster.
The crabman was a guest speaker at the Perry Hall chapter of the Maryland Saltwater Sportfishermen's Association, where he discussed the proposed regulations and restrictions for the upcoming season.
